Panasonic TH-85PF12EK. 85" Plasma Panasonic have produced a superb monitor equally happy as a high class monitor at home or in the workplace. The full HD resolution means the latest video signals can be played back with ease and at this size they look superb. Use the screen in landscape or portrait mode to create images of almost lifesize proportions. A full array of video and PC input cards are available giving most video types and resolutions. (see bottom of page) The screen however is physically big and heavy (117kg). Careful handling is required and if required specialist installation can be arranged, this would require a site survey to establish the logistics of getting the screen positioned. The structure of the cells has been improved to provide twice the luminous efficiency compared to previous models. New materials are employed in its construction, the physical structure itself has been altered too, increasing the electrode size thus increasing the drive area.Behind this the circuits and drive engine has been revamped bringing cleaner white, blacker black and a colour palette that exceeds the HDTV standard. The panel consists is a one-piece construction, no second layer of glass is used over the front of the plasma panel cutting down on internal reflections for an improved picture. This also means a dynamic black layer can be sandwiched in-between the plasma section and the front covering. This dramatically improves the black capabilities of the screen which in turn affects the whole image, providing a much smoother gradation. Viewing angle is also an important factor with colour accuracy being maintained over the whole range. As the pixels are self illuminating no loss is evident wherever you view from. The improved processing and circuitry also means that resolution is kept at 1080 lines for moving images. Important if the screen is to be used to display anything with fast action: motor racing, sport, action movies etc. Nothing is lost from the incoming signal when HD 1080 material is used.
